3 Tips On How To Stop Leaky Gut

The term “leaky gut” is still in the twilight zone of the medical community today. On one end, there are doctors who do not recognize this term as a legitimate medical condition. On the other end, there are doctors who believe that many of the chronic conditions our society faces today may actually be associated with a dysfunctional and unhealthy gastrointestinal system. The clash between the two sides is one of the primary reasons why there is still a vague understanding of the term “leaky gut” today. But in reality, is leaky gut really something that you should worry about?

What is a Leaky Gut?

Within our belly exists an intestinal lining, which controls what gets absorbed into our bodies. This tight lining in our intestinal system acts like a barrier that checks what gets inside our bloodstream, from broken down nutrients to chemical substances.

When working healthily, this barrier works as an effective first line of defense for our intestinal system. When unhealthy, the gut lining usually forms large gaps and holes, which allow toxins, bugs, worms, and even partially undigested food to penetrate through.

This leads to a condition also known as “leaky gut,” and it can lead to inflammation and radical changes in the gut flora (normal bacteria in our body). This results to problems that may even escalate to other complications, such as digestive tract problems and irritable bowel syndrome. Once this inflammation starts and leaky gut symptoms start to manifest, you should start planning an anti-inflammatory diet while also taking into consideration foods to avoid with leaky gut.

Tips On How To Stop Leaky Gut

1. Avoid Foods That Cause Intestinal Inflammation

If you already have a sensitive gut and increased intestinal permeability, then you should try to avoid foods that cause irritation and intestinal inflammation. Some of the known inflammatory foods to avoid for leaky gut are gluten-containing grains such as barley, rye bulgur, and seitan. Processed meat and wheat-based products, along with salty snacks and dairy products, should be avoided to avoid further irritating the gut.

2. Indulge In An Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Eating healthy is the key to starting to heal a leaky gut. Indulging on a vegetable-and-fruits-based diet is something that you can do to initiate a healing response for your increased intestinal permeability. We highly recommend adding food such as green vegetables, roots and tubers, potatoes, fruits, gluten-free grains (such as rice) and fish on your diet.

3. Add Probiotics In Your System

Probiotics are yeast and live bacteria that have beneficial effects on our body, which is why they are often called “the good bacteria”. And according to an article published by the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (NCBI) entitled “The Role of Probiotics and Prebiotics in Inducing Gut Immunity,” there are medical studies linking probiotics and our gut immune systems. With this in mind, adding probiotics to your system through the consumption of supplements can help improve the condition of leaky gut.

Here at Whole Family Products, we offer a wide range of probiotics, digestive enzymes, and gastrointestinal support supplements to help you with your leaky gut problems. Check out our products below that are especially-made to assist people with gastrointestinal problems.
